American River Men's Tennis won the Modesto Junior College Invitational for the first time in the program's storied history. The Beavers ran away with the team title as all 3 doubles teams won their respective draws. The flighted tournament is unique in that each player competes against players from other teams at their corresponding position in the lineup. Of the 6 singles draws the Beavers won the #1 (Cody Duong), #2 (Seppi Capaul), and #3 (Alex Meliuk) draws. Combined with the sweep of the 3 doubles draws, the Beavers won 6 of the overall 9 draws.

Highlights for the Beavers included Cody Duong beating Igor Pissarenko (FH) and Sean Alves (FLC), each in straight sets to clinch the #1 singles draw. Seppi Capaul rallied back from 4-1 down in the 1st set to beat Kyle Rae (FCC) in the #2 singles draw final. Alex Meliuk surrendered only 4 games through 4 rounds to dominate the #3 singles draw. In the doubles, Capaul/Meliuk came back from a set down against the Foothill #1 team (Pissarenko/Holt) to earn a spot in the #1 draw final. In the final they beat Goldman/Salvador (DVC) for the title. In the #2 doubles draw, Duong/Kadyn Silva rolled through the tourney without dropping a set, eventually beating Anchetta/Rae (FCC) in an exciting final. In the #3 doubles draw TJ Aukland/Justin Barton rebounded from a slow start in the final to dominate the final two sets for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory against Rajanthiran/Strabo (FH).

The Beavers will retain their #1 ranking in Northern California and look forward to starting the conference season against conference rival Diablo Valley College on Tuesday, February 16.
