Cody Duong Wins Arthur Ashe Award, 5 Other ITA Award Nominations for ARC Men?s Tennis

For the second straight season, Cody Duong won a prestigious ITA Award at the annual CCCAA/ITA Award Banquet at the state championships in Ojai. Last season Duong was named ITA Player to Watch, as the top player in the state that would be coming back for his second season of competition. He lived up to the award, earning the #1 seed for NorCal at the Ojai tournament and teaming with Tam Duong as the #1 seeded doubles team in NorCal. This year at the banquet Cody won the award that identifies him as having the best sportsmanship in the state, The ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. Coach Bo Jabery-Madison explained "Cody is a tremendous leader by example. He lets his actions do the talking, and most importantly, he plays the game with impeccable fairness and sportsmanship. Cody is the epitome of what the Arthur Ashe Award stands for, in that he competes at a high level, plays for the enjoyment of the game and the satisfaction he gets from improvement, and always holds himself to the highest standard when it comes to sportsmanship. The impact he has made on our program is immeasurable, because it goes beyond the wins/losses and in to the core identity and character of our team.

Other ITA Award nominees included Tam Duong (Sophomore of the Year), Cody Duong (Sophomore of the Year), Michael Vizcarra (Freshman of the Year), Patrick Johnson (Assistant Coach of the Year), and Bo Jabery-Madison (Head Coach of the Year). Cody Duong's award, and the high number of nominations are a reflection of the tremendous season the Beavers have had.
