American River Men Dominate the Big 8

ARC men running with the rest of the runners way behind.

The American River College men's cross country team won it's 2nd straight Big 8 title, 12th title in the last 13 years, and 42nd overall. In a race that was thought to be close between ARC and Diablo Valley, the Beavers took the pace out hard and dominated throughout, taking the first 3 places and 5 in the top 7 on their way to a 42 point victory, 18-60. American River was led by freshman Jesus Guerra-Reyes, who covered the 3.90 mile course in 19:10. That is the 3rd best time ever on this course, ARC 5k and 10k school record holder Will Reyes 19:03 and 2013 XC state champion Luis Luna 19:09, are the only two to ever run faster. The Beavs average team time of 19:32 was also 1 second faster than the 2013 ARC team that won the state title. Finishing 2nd overall was ARC's Josh Kling in 19:26. Last year Kling was 18th in the Big 8 championship meet. Rounding out the top 3 was Peter Vo in 19:28. Peter also made a huge improvement between his freshman and sophomore year when he was 12th last year. The 4th Beaver across the line was Collin DeJulio (redshirt in 2018) in 5th place at 19:41 and Ruben Garcia was the last runner to make the All-Conference 1st team finishing in 7th at 19:57. Last year Ruben finished 19th in the Big 8. Making 2nd team All-Conference were Ben Blankenburg in 9th at 20:05, Andrew Ribeiro in 11th in 20:26 and Austin Shields in 12th at 20:31. Also having a great conference meet were freshmen:

Wyatt Gough 15th, 20:35
Tristan Paperno, 17th 20:52
Donovan Freer, 18th 21:01
Jon Allie, 22nd 21:25
Reed Moore, 26th 21:42
Sean Larbaoui, 34th, 22:25
