The American River College men's cross country team improved on their #3 state ranking to capture 2nd place behind San Diego Mesa College at Saturday's State Championships. This is the 6th top 2 finish in the last 9 years (including 4 championship teams) and the 10th top 3 finish in the last 17 years. The Beavers 65 points was about 30 points better than anticipated and 76 points ahead of 3rd place Mt San Antonio College and 167 points ahead of the top NorCal team College of Sequoias. Leading the way for the Beavers was freshman (Placer HS) Jesus Guerra-Reyes and his 4th place finish (1st team All-American), covering the 4 mile course in 20:35, and coming in as the top freshman in the state. Finishing in the top 10 and securing All-American status was sophomore Collin DeJulio (10th place/20:50 – Vista Del Lago HS). Rounding out the top 5 scorers  for the Beavs were Ben Blankenburg's 18th place finish (21:09 – Bella Vista HS), Peter Vo's 19th place finish (21:10 – Lodi HS), and Josh Klings 20th place finish (21:12 – Whitney HS). This is the first time in ARC history the Beavers have had all 5 runners in the top 20 overall finishers. Finishing as 6th man for ARC was Ruben Garcia in 25th place (21:19 – Monterey Trail HS) and taking the 7th man spot was Andrew Ribeiro's 64th place finish (21:58 – Spanish Springs HS).
