Carson Lowden is new ARC Volleyball Coach

American River College (ARC) is proud to announce Carson Lowden as new head coach of the college's successful volleyball program. Lowden was approved by the Los Rios Board of Trustees at their June 8 meeting and will start in mid-July.

"ARC is fortunate to have Carson on board. She brings a wealth of experience and energy to our program," said Derrick Booth, Interim Dean of Athletics & Kinesiology. "Carson will have an immediate impact on the ARC community with her strong commitment to student success, both in academics and in competition."

Lowden comes to ARC from UC Berkeley, where she served as assistant volleyball coach for the women's indoor program. Prior to Cal, she spent three seasons at Chico State as assistant coach. Before her time at Chico State, Lowden served as an assistant at Butte College. She also has extensive experience coaching at the club level.

"As a Northern California native, I could not be more excited to find a home at American River College," Lowden said. "Located in the heart of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by quality club programs and high schools, there is endless potential to continue to bring exciting local talent into the program, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build on a program already known for success."

Lowden earned her Masters degree in kinesiology (with an emphasis in sport and exercise psychology) from Chico State and her Bachelors in exercise biology from UC Davis.

Lowden was a setter at UC Davis from 2005-09, earning Big West All-Conference recognition in 2009 and serving as team captain her junior and senior years. She was a three-time Big West All-Academic Team selection and was the UC Davis Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior. In 2009 she was also a National Strength and Conditioning Association All-American and in 2011 won a National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Collegiate Club Volleyball Division 1AA National Championship with the Chico State Women's Club Volleyball Team. She was the Chico State Female Club Athlete of the Year
and tournament MVP.

At Yuba City High School, she was a two-sport standout, earning All-Metro League honors in both volleyball and basketball. She was awarded three straight first-team nods in volleyball, plus all-area distinction. Lowden was selected as Marysville Appeal-Democrat Player of the Year in both 2003 and 2004. She was recognized as a 4.0 (GPA) scholar-athlete all four years and selected as valedictorian.
