Diablo Valley made it a sweep at the Big 7 Conference Meet by winning the men’s and women’s titles.  The women finished well ahead of the field on the 5K course at Beale’s Point in Folsom.  The Beavers came in fifth place.  Lindsey Barlow continued her string of strong performances by placing 11th in a time of 21:46; as a result, she earned a spot on the all-conference team.  Kelley Rooney led a cluster of four ARC runners by placing 19th in a 22:53 mark; she was followed by Deena Elwan (20th, 22:55), Lynn Tracy (24th, 23:37), and Sherrie Rouse (27th, 24:18).  ARC’s Amanda Ryan came in 41st with a time of 28:40.

Toro Park Invitational

The Beavers only had three runners in the 3-mile meet in Salinas, so they did not earn a team score, but the trio that competed turned in strong performances. Lindsey Barlow’s 20:49 was good enough for a 22nd place finish.  She was followed closely by Deena Elwan (28th place) and Lynn Tracy (32nd) with times of 21:25 and 21:47, respectively.

Lou Vasquez Invitational

Lindsey Barlow’s time of 20:47 led the Beavers to an 8th-place finish in the 15-team meet in Golden Gate Park.  Four out of five runners hit seasonal best marks, prompting Coach Jeanette Powless to comment, “It’s fun to watch the ladies continue to improve.”  Sherrie Rouse finished in 21:07 with Kelley Rooney close behind at 21:32.  Deena Elwan finished in 22:05 and Lynn Tracy clocked a 22:23.

Golden West Invitational

Twenty-two teams were entered in the state-wide meet in Huntington Beach, and the Beavers finished eighth as four out of five runners turned in season personal-best times.  Lindsey Barlow led the squad by taking 28 seconds off her fastest effort, clocking a 21:02 time.  Deena Elwan (21:57 mark), Sherrie Rouse (22:20), Lynn Tracy (22:30), and Julie Cambra (23:52) rounded out the top five finishers for ARC.  Yet again the Beavers competed without a full team with Kelley Rooney unable to compete due to a car accident.

3rd Annual Beaver Invitational

Freshman Lindsey Barlow led the Beavers to their third-place finish on the new Beales Point 5K course.  “With challenging hills and difficult terrain, the ladies did a good job this early in the season,” said Coach Jeanette Powless.  Barlow covered the demanding course in 22:26 to lead five ARC runners who finished within a minute of each other.  Kelley Rooney ran 22:40, Lynn Tracy 23:24, Sherrie Rouse 23:29, and Deena Elwan 23:32.  “We’re looking forward to traveling down south to Huntington Beach this weekend and competing with our whole squad for the first time,” added Powless.

Fresno Invitational

The Beavers opened the season in Fresno by finishing 8th overall and 5th in Northern California.  Freshman Kelley Rooney led ARC in her first-ever 5K race, placing 26th with a time of 21:20.  “She has no experience, having never run cross country before,” said Coach Jeanette Powless.  “It will be exciting to watch her mature and improve her running as the season gets underway.”  Also finishing in the top half of the strong field were Lindsey Barlow (22:00, 38th place), Sherrie Rouse (22:36, 41st), Deena Elwan (22:37, 42nd), Lynn Tracy (22:57, 47th).  Sophomore Julie Cambra, who sat out the invitational due to injury, should prove to be another asset for the Beavers this season
